Audition for NYU’s Choruses!

The NYU Choral Arts Society is the official choral program of New York University. It consists of six choirs, each with a unique identity and style. The Society welcomes participation from the entire University and surrounding community. Concerts are performed on campus, as well as at venues throughout the city.

Auditions to be held on:
Saturday, January 21, and Sunday, January 22

NYU Chorale
NYU Chorale is an all-University ensemble and the largest classical choral ensemble at NYU. Chorale offers singers an in-depth performance experience of large-scale choral works with special emphasis on works from the 19th and 20th centuries. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.001

University Singers
A select choir, this ensemble is devoted to chamber repertoire from all periods. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.002

Madrigal Singers
Madrigal Singers is a small, coed ensemble of 16 singers dedicated to the joy of a capella singing. Challenging repertoire includes music from Renaissance to Rock and all things in between. Ability to sight sing is required. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.005

Women’s Choir
An ensemble of 60 voices devoted to the highest quality literature in a wide variety of musical styles. Auditions consist of a solo song, vocalization and tonal memory exercises. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.003

Jazz Choir (Vocal Jazz Ensemble)
An ensemble of 16 vocalists. Repertoire is of high quality and is chosen to represent a wide range of jazz/contemporary periods and styles. Auditions consist of a solo song, improvisation to a 24 measure blues chorus, and sight-reading. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.004

Men’s Glee
The newest of the NYU Choirs, the all male organization performs a varied repertoire of choral selections. MPAME-GE 2085, MPAME-UE 1085.006

Audition for the NYU Concert Band or Music Education Jazz Ensemble!

NYU Concert Band
The NYU Concert Band performs varied literature from the Symphonic Band/Wind Ensemble repertoire. Membership is open to any student at NYU by audition only.

Contact Professor Michael Breaux (michael.breaux@nyu.edu) to arrange an audition time.
Rehearsals are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
The final concert will be Thursday, April 27 at 8 p.m.

NYU Music Education Jazz Ensemble
The NYU Music Education Jazz Ensemble performs literature from the Big Band and modern Jazz Ensemble genres. Membership is open by audition to any currently matriculating NYU student who plays saxophone (including doubles – flute, clarinet), trumpet, trombone, piano, bass, drums, guitar, or percussion.

Rehearsals are Mondays from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
The final concert will be Thursday, May 4 at 8 p.m.

Arrivals and Orientation Update

The residence halls will be ready to check you in to your rooms starting at 10 AM on January 22 if you are new to New York this spring.  Returning fall students may check back into the same room from the fall upon arrival to New York.

On the 22nd, 19 Washington Square North, a building located on NYU’s campus, will host an open house from 1PM – 4PM.  Students may gather there to ask questions, gather some informational materials, and have some light refreshments.  Campus tours will be available from 19 Washington Square North at 3PM.  If you have any questions upon arrival, during the first week of classes, or at any point during the semester, please contact gpnyc@nyu.edu.  Your question will be answered as quickly as possible.

The mandatory on-site orientation for students new to NY this spring will be on January 27th from 4PM-7PM with a pizza dinner to follow.  Orientation will be in Vanderbilt Hall in the Greenberg Lounge.  Please be sure to review the on-line modules to prepare for the start of the spring semester and for orientation.  Only students with class conflicts documented in Albert will be excused from orientation.

Students returning from the fall semester are welcome to attend orientation, but it is not a requirement.  However, returning students must check in with at:

  1. 19 Washington Square North on January 22 (1PM-4PM)
  2. 383 Lafayette Street on January 23-January 25 from 10AM-12PM or 2PM-4PM

E-bills Received

NYU’s Office of the Bursar has now sent out electronic bills (e-bills) to all registered students for the spring semester. Bills are due by January 5th! If you have not received an e-bill (remember, this is only sent to your NYU email account), you can still access your e-bill as follows:

  • Log into NYU Home (home.nyu.edu)
  • Click on the Academics tab, then click on Albert Login
  • Click on the “Student Center”
  • Click on the “View Bursar Account” link located under the Finances menu
  • This should link to the secure eSuite website

Please note: Students currently living on campus with meal plans will automatically see a charge on your bursar bill for spring 2017. You can have this charge removed by logging in to the meal plan portal with your Net ID and password and cancelling it.

Program Dates Update

The Office of Housing has confirmed that students should plan to check out of housing May 17 rather than May 18.  If you have already purchased your tickets to depart on May 18, please complete the Spring Flight Form by December 12 and we can arrange for a late check out for May 18.  Please note the blog has been updated to reflect the May 17 preferred check-out date.

Submit Flight Details ASAP

Once you’ve purchased your flight, remember to complete this form by January 4 .  This is critical so local staff are aware of when you intend to arrive.  The earlier you can submit these the better so staff can get a sense of common arrival times.

In addition, please also submit these into NYU Traveler, which goes directly to NYU Public Safety.  It should only take you a few minutes and you can get started by taking the following steps:

Apply to be a Site Ambassador for the SSC

Are you looking for leadership opportunities while you are abroad? The Site Ambassador Student Council position is a great way to make a difference while you are abroad! The Global Committee on Student Life, a part of the Student Senators Council, operates to strengthen NYU as a truly Global Network, and provides this opportunity to join the Study Away Site Ambassador Program.

The Site Ambassador Program is designed to extend student leadership at NYU to all of our global sites. Ambassadors provide their peers with a student liaison to the site administration and work to enhance the overall study away experience, while maintaining communication between the global site and the Site Ambassador Committee in New York. As student council officers abroad, Ambassadors will be evaluating the state of student affairs in their site, echoing the feedback from their peers, faculty and site administration abroad. We encourage you to apply today!

E-Bills Coming Soon & Setting Up Direct Deposit

The NYU Bursar will send bills via email on November 29.  Please keep an eye on yourNYU email account for your NYU Berlin bill. You can also log directly into eSuite to view your billing statements.  These will be due in full by January 5.

Additionally, if you anticipate receiving any portion of your bill in the form of a refund, we recommend setting up direct deposit with NYU.  Instructions on how to do so can be found on the Bursar’s website here.
